Insurance company told to pay compensation

BELLARY: The Bellary District Consumers' Grievances Redressal Forum has ordered the New India Assurance Company, Bangalore, to pay a compensation of Rs. 5.83 lakhs, with interest at the rate of six per cent to Vijayakrishna Granites, in addition to Rs. 5,000 towards causing mental agony and cost of Rs. 1,000. Vijayakrishna Granites, which exports granite, had obtained an open marine policy from the company. In an accident that occurred on the way to Chennai, polished granite worth Rs. 6.48 lakhs got damaged.

When the claim for compensation was turned down by the company, Vijayakrishna Granites approached the forum.

In another case, the forum has directed Annapoorna Agencies Tata Tele Services to pay a compensation of Rs. 3,000 to Pawan Kumar of Bellary.

Mr. Kumar had taken a telephone connection from the agency. Some time ago, he received a bill for Rs. 14,103 against which he moved the forum. The forum ordered the agency to pay Rs. 3,000 as compensation to Mr. Kumar.
