Action against buildings without Completion Certificate

The corporation has short-listed 24 buildingsThey have been declared unfit to be occupied

HUBLI: Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) will start the "sealing drive" from Tuesday against commercial buildings of more than 2,000 sq. ft that do not possess Completion Certificate (CC).

In the first phase the corporation has short-listed 24 buildings in Hubli and Dharwad for sealing after declaring them unfit to be occupied.

The corporation has served the eviction notice to the owners of these buildings and has ordered hem to clear the premises.

The buildings have been short-listed based on their area, and the list has been prepared in the descending order of the total area, P. Manivannan, Commissioner of HDMC, has said.

Buildings built before 1976, and those owned by the Government have been dropped from the list, he said.

However, the owners who have the original completion certificate or have applied for the certificate recently, should show the same to the corporation officials who come for sealing, he said.

Mr. Manivannan said that the sealing drive was being conducted as per the recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld the sealing of buildings which did not possess completion certificates.

List announced

The corporation had announced a list of buildings that were built without obtaining "building permission" from it, and those buildings that were being used without getting completion certificates from the authorities. Making an announcement in this regard on October 25, Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of the HDMC M.S. Srikar had appealed to the owners of commercial buildings of more than 2,000 sq. ft (407 buildings in Hubli and Dharwad) to apply for the CC immediately to escape from stringent action, and had given time till November 30.

After the deadline, the corporation had issued a primary notice to owners of such buildings through newspapers, and had gave them time till December 12.
