Good rainfall in Madikeri

MADIKERI, JULY 24. Madikeri and surrounding areas and Bhagamandala received good rainfall on Saturday for the second day in a row.

According to reports received here, Madikeri taluk recorded 93.8 mm rainfall in the 24 hours up to 8 a.m. on Saturday while Bhagamandala received 74.4 mm rainfall during the same period.

Intermittent drizzles were reported in Virajpet and Somwarpet taluks.

Somwarpet taluk received 13.6 mm rainfall while it was 10.2 mm. in Virajpet taluk, according to the reports.

Some crops, including paddy in the dry areas of Virajpet taluk such as Balele, Nittur, and other areas, are at risk following the absence of rain.

Police sources confirmed from Bhagamandala that there was good rain there and that the water level in the Cauvery had gone up.


The water level in the Harangi Reservoir level has reached 2,856.76 feet as against the maximum storage of 2,859 feet.

The inflow into the reservoir on Saturday was 1,856 cusecs. As much as 1,371 cusecs is being released into the canals.

The Harangi area received 16 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours.


The Superintending Engineer of the Harangi Reservoir, Basavaraj Koti, on Saturday asked the people living in the vicinity of the reservoir and on the riverbanks to be vigilant as water would be released into the canals from the reservoir from 5 p.m. on Saturday. In view of the increase in the rainfall in the Harangi catchment areas, the inflow into the reservoir was constantly increasing, he said.
