KARNATAKA

`Give prominence to Kannada'

MYSORE, OCT. 7. The Federation of Kannada Organisations has urged the organisers of Dasara festivities to give prominence to Kannada in publicity materials.

In a press release issued here, the federation has said that prominence should not be given to English ignoring Kannada as a medium of language. It has threatened to launch an agitation if the organisers ignore its plea.

Acknowledging that English signboards will help tourists, the federation has said that at the same time prominence to Kannada should not be forgotten.

Though English signboards are not used in France and Switzerland, lakhs of tourists flock these countries.

The federation has objected to the excessive use of English in the poster released for Dasara adventure tourism and in the gold card.
