Forestland near Raichur encroached upon

RAICHUR, AUG.14. The Forest Department here has found that a portion of a notified forest area at Bolmandoddi village, 3 km from city, has been encroached upon by the owner of the adjacent land.

Raichur district has around 33,600 hectares of notified forest land, including forest area, grazing land and wasteland.

Of this, around 2,500 hectares of land has been encroached upon by villagers for agricultural purposes. So far, the department has been able to evict encroachers from only around 180 hectares.

The alleged encroachment of reserve forest land at Bolmandoddi village came to light when the department examined a complaint lodged by a local person recently.

It is alleged that A. Vasanthkumar, president of the rural unit of the Raichur Congress and former chairman of the Raichur Development Authority, had encroached upon the forest land in Survey No. 31/1 adjacent to his land at Bolmandoddi village and used it for horticulture.
