Fence around `encroached' area removed

MADIKERI, JULY 24. The district administration has completed the process of removing the fence put up by alleged encroachers around the revenue land at Chikkaluvara and Doddaluvara villages in the Torenur Gram Panchayat limits in Somwarpet taluk.

The Assistant Commissioner, M. Nagaraj, told The Hindu here on Saturday that the people who had occupied the land would be evicted soon.

Many of them had filed applications in Form 50 and Form 53 with the Akrama-Sakrama Samiti (land regularisation committee) headed by the Somwarpet MLA, he said.

But the Tahsildar had been instructed not to entertain the applications, he added.

Mr. Nagaraj noted that if the authorities concerned had occupied the lands allotted to them, the problem of encroachment would not have come up.

The revenue staff were constantly monitoring the area to prevent further encroachments and any fresh bid to fence the area, he said.

Mr. Nagaraj indicated that even if the "encroachments" were regularised by the Akrama-Sakrama samiti, the cases could be reviewed by the district administration.
