MYSORE: Joint Secretary of Department of Water Resources, Bangalore, M.V. Vedamurthy, has been appointed as the Expenditure Observer for zilla panchayat elections in Mysore district.

According to an official statement, Mr. Vedamurthy will discharge his duties from the Assistant Commissioner's office here.

Meanwhile, expenditure observers have also been appointed for each taluk to oversee the expenditure of candidates contesting the polls in the respective taluk panchayats.

Deputy Director of Sericulture Department Thipperudrappa has been appointed as expenditure observer for T. Narsipur; Joint Director of District Industries Centre, Hassan, N.C. Nagaraj for Periyapatna; Deputy Director of Cooperative Audit, Hassan, G.S. Thimma Siddaiah for Nanjangud; Assistant Director of Cooperative Audit, Hassan, H.R. Jayanna for Hunsur; Environment officer, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, N. Ramesh Kumar for H.D. Kote; Senior Assistant Director of Horticulture Department J.G. Nagaraju for K.R. Nagar; and Assistant Director of Sericulture Department Munisa Basavaiah for Mysore.

Meanwhile, the last date for withdrawal of nominations for the 46 constituencies of Mysore Zilla Panchayat and 171 taluk panchayat constituencies in the seven taluk panchayats of Mysore district ended on Saturday.

The withdrawal of nominations assumes significance in view of the large number of aspirants, who had entered the fray in anticipation of official nomination from the political parties.

Most parties had multiple aspirants for the same constituency and the party leaders had a tough time convincing party workers who had not obtained the `B' form to withdraw their nominations.

Though the Congress and AIPJD leaders were in favour of a seat-sharing pact, aspirants from both the parties had filed nominations for the same seat in many constituencies, particularly in Mysore taluk.
