Enrolment drive to arrest dropout rate in Bellary

BELLARY: A "Prabhat Pheri" (grand procession) was taken out by students of various schools here on Wednesday to create awareness about the special enrolment drive undertaken for dropouts under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan.

Veerashivashankar Reddy, Chief Planning Officer of the Bellary Zilla Panchayat, flagged off the procession, which went through the main thoroughfares of the city. Students carrying placards and shouting slogans in support of literacy.

M. Srinivas, Deputy Director of Public Instructions, said the programme is aimed at enrolling dropouts between 7 and 14 years. He said a survey of dropouts has been completed. Dropouts between 6 and 7 years were enrolled during June. This time, those between 7 and 14 years are being targeted, he added. Stress is being laid on covering children who have been left out in the "Chinnara Angala" programme, he said and added that accordingly, a special enrolment drive is being held at the district, block and school levels.
