Suresh Kumar says BJP prepared to sit in opposition in panchayats

Madikeri: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not allow Janata Dal (Secular) President H.D. Deve Gowda to blackmail the BJP in the State in the garb of forging a coalition, party spokesperson S. Suresh Kumar said here on Friday.

Mr. Suresh Kumar was addressing party workers at a function organised to felicitate the newly elected party members from Madikeri taluk to the zilla and taluk panchayats.

Mr. Deve Gowda's ploy to use the BJP as a weapon to achieve his ends will be defeated at any cost, Mr. Kumar said.

Political power is not important to the BJP, but the welfare of the people is, Mr. Kumar said.

The party is prepared to function as a constructive Opposition party.

It will not compromise on its principles to come to power in the State. Mr. Kumar, who urged the Janata Dal (S) and the Congress to stop quarrelling in public, dared them to go to elections instead.

He refuted reports that there is a proposal before the BJP to forge an alliance with the Janata Dal (S) as was rumoured currently.

On the other hand, the Janata Dal (S) and the Congress are getting "divorced" and will soon go before the "people's court", he said.

The BJP did not want another elections to be thrust upon the people of the State as the zilla and taluk panchayat elections were conducted recently.

Mr. Kumar called upon the party workers to remain sincere, transparent, simple, and respond to the people's problems.

Mangalore MP D.V. Sadananda Gowda, said the "political fortunes and stability" of Mr. Deve Gowda are in the hands of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Madikeri MLA K.G. Bopaiah spoke. BJP Madikeri taluk unit president Ravi Kushalappa presided over the function.
