Corporate leaders told to formulate strategies for sustained growth

MYSORE, MARCH 24. Students passing out of the SDM Institute for Management Development here command an average salary of Rs. 2.66 lakh per annum, according to its Chairman, D. Veerendra Heggade.

Speaking at the 10th annual convocation of the institute here on Wednesday, Dr. Heggade said 52 of the 59 students passing out of the institute were offered jobs during campus placements held in January. Thirty-eight companies participated in the headhunting process at the institute.

Dr. Heggade said the country is passing through a phase of high growth and development. "India has been accepted internationally as a quality provider of goods and services. Professionals from our country are in great demand the world over," he added.

Good indication

The high level of foreign exchange reserves is a good indication of the increased wealth-creation in the country. However, the challenge is in sustaining the tempo and "enhancing our worth" in the light of intense competition. Business today is faced with the need to identify its individual competence and competitive ability with international standards of excellence. For this purpose, corporate leaders have to formulate strategies and communicate them to their managers and successfully implement them, Dr. Heggade said.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Turner Morrison Ltd., New Delhi, Amit Judge, urged the students to imbibe human values. "Business will follow," he told the students while delivering the convocation address.

Mr. Judge, who is the Chairman of Barista Coffee Company Ltd., urged the students to respond positively to the needs of society.

He emphasised the importance of upholding ethical values in business environment. "Punctuality, hard work and efficiency are the key to success," he added. Fifty-nine students were given postgraduate diploma on the occasion. G. Nima Shenoy bagged three gold medals.

She bagged the Chairman's Gold Medal for distinguished student, the Canara Bank Gold Medal for Finance and the Alumni Gold Medal for Marketing.

Shivashankar M. Paragond bagged the Kuduma Fasteners Gold Medal for Marketing, while Sandeep James Lewis got the ITS Gold Medal for Systems. Karthik B. bagged the Faculty Gold Medal for Systems.

Divya Acharya bagged the ACC Gold Medal for HRM, while Chethak K. won the Alumni Gold Medal for her project.
