Contractors cautioned against delay

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: The Shimoga City Municipal Council at its meeting here on Thursday decided to confiscate EMD (earnest money deposit) of contractors and include them in the "black list" if they fail to complete the works within the stipulated period.

The meeting viewed the delay in the completion of several development works seriously following complaints by a councillor, N.J. Rajasekhar, that works had not been completed despite the warning to the contractors concerned.

D.M. Ramaiah pointed out that the contractors who had not implemented even one work had been given several works overlooking the rules. He suggested that no contractor be given more than three works at a time.

Municipal Commissioner K.M. Dharmappa responding to the complaints by the councillors promised that the contractors would be dealt with severely if they did not complete the works assigned to them on time. Such contractors would not be given work hereafter, he said.

A resolution was adopted at the suggestion of councillors.

Municipal President B.A. Ramesh Hegde presided over the meeting.

The meeting decided to issue notices to the engineers concerned for leaving the 150 hp pumpset at the water works with the repairer, though repair work had been completed.
