Concern over delay in disposal of consumer grievance cases

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: Expressing concern over the delays in the disposal of consumer cases, C.K. Mahajan, president of State Consumer Commission, has underscored the need for widespread public awareness about consumer rights. He also said that consumers should be made aware of the appropriate forum that they can approach for relief.

Mr. Mahajan was speaking at a function organised by the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) to mark "National Consumer Rights Day" on Tuesday.

Reiterating his concern over the delays in the disposal of consumer grievance cases, he said the presiding officers could pay minimum attention to the technicalities while disposing of such cases.

"Consumer courts should not be like civil courts and cases coming before these courts should be disposed of within three months," he said.
