From campaigning for a dying lake to bringing about changes in their gated communities, many within the Whitefield’s community have shown the way to creating a more sustainable neigbourhood.

Saving Varthur

A group of residents have begun a campaign to save the 445.8 acre Varthur Lake, one of the largest in the city and sadly, among the most polluted too. The team aims to develop and clean the lake and restore it to its original glory. Campaigners aim to divert the sewage that flows into the lake and persuade the civic authorities to remove encroachments.

Whitefield Rising

This is the name of a group that comprises residents of Whitefield who try to address various civic problems including the garbage crisis, traffic snarls and pollution. The community is also involved in raising awareness about water conservation among the residents and in educating residents in apartments and gated complexes about judicious use of water.
