TNSTC drivers refuse to pay charges

KRISHNAGIRI: When the user fee came into force at the toll plaza at Bynapalli near here on Tuesday, commotion prevailed due to refusal by TNSTC bus drivers to pay toll, citing lack of information from higher officials in the TNSTC.

While private bus drivers paid the required amount, drivers of Government-run buses refused to pay, stating that no prior information was provided on the collection of user fee.

This resulted in heated exchanges between the bus drivers and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials who refused to allow the buses without paying the toll.

As a result, buses passing through Bynapalli were parked near the toll plaza itself choking traffic for nearly two hours in the area.

Following assurances from senior officials in the TNSTC that the toll would be paid, ex-servicemen manning the toll plaza allowed the corporation buses to pass after noting down their registration numbers.
