Committee reviews projects

Dharmapuri: The District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee reviewed the projects proposed and implemented through the Department of Rural Development for the current financial year.

Expenditure reviewed

At the meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday, the committee also reviewed the expenditure and financial components of the District Rural Development Agency. Committee chairman and Dharmapuri MP Dr. R. Senthil presided over the meeting.

`Funds sanctioned'

Mr. Senthil said that the Government had sanctioned crores of rupees under the Drought Prone Area Programme (DPAP) for desilting lakes and tanks, construction of percolation ponds, cattle ponds and other water harvesting structures.

He said that a satellite mapping of drought-prone areas in the district must be done. The MP also suggested that members of DVMC go on a study tour to Maharashtra to verify the success of DPAP programmes implemented in the State.

The progress of various schemes including the PMGRD and Sampoorna Gram Rozgar Yojana were also discussed.
