Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda on Monday admitted that the Finance portfolio had become a bone of contention for both his party and the Congress. “Congress is seeking the Finance portfolio and no decision has been taken on the contentious issue,” he told presspersons.
Mr. Gowda said the JD (S) did not seek the post of CM; it was “forced on” Mr. Kumaraswamy.
“AICC leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ashok Gehlot met me and offered to extend support in making Kumaraswamy Chief Minister. I told them let the Congress take the post of CM and the JD(S) would extend support. Even after prolonged discussions, they did not budge from their stand. If the Congress is not ready to give the Finance portfolio, what can we do?”
On Mr. Kumaraswamy’s statement of quitting if the coalition government did not keep its promise on farm loan waiver, Mr. Gowda said the Chief Minister was speaking from his heart.
