Christmas celebrated with religious fervour in twin cities

HUBLI: Christmas was celebrated in the twin cities and several places in the district with a religious fervour, and the spirit of goodwill for all.

Solemn rejoicing marked the celebrations in the twin cities, especially in Dharwad, where Basel Mission was established in 1836. Prayers were offered and carols were sung in churches across the district. Santa Clause look-alikes entertained children and distributed freebies.

There were large congregations for midnight services on Sunday. Carol singers made sure that those who stayed home on Sunday were reminded of the occasion.

Most of the Christian houses in the twin cities had the traditional "star" lit in front of them.

Streets in several areas were illuminated with colour lights.
