KRISHNAGIRI: The children's park and boathouse at the Avadhanpatti Lake near Kaveripattinam, constructed at an outlay of Rs. 1.25 crores, will be opened shortly.

The park constructed on a five-acre land has been provided with all facilities and play materials to enable children to spend their leisure time. A compound wall has also been built around the park to keep it away from miscreants. Six boats have also been purchased to promote tourism in the area.

In addition, a hanging bridge and other play materials for children have been created at an outlay of Rs. 10 lakhs.

Orders issued

"Orders have also been issued to install sodium vapour lamps all around the park so that the area is well lit up," said the Collector, Mangat Ram Sharma.

Eating joints and parking facilities would be created at a cost of Rs. 20 lakhs and a bus stop would also be provided shortly. Further, steps have also been initiated to plant saplings all around the surrounding hillocks. With the lake located on NH 7 and serve as a midpoint between Bangalore and Salem, the children' park and boathouse would go a long way in providing entertainment to the residents of Krishnagiri.

District-level panel

As of now the park would be maintained by a district-level committee and would later be privatised. With another five acres of land getting ready nearby, the district administration has planned an entertainment park and restroom facilities for the public.

As part of developing tourism in the district, the renovation of Thally Lake and Deverbatta temple would be taken up in the second phase. It was already announced in the budget and facilities would be created for tourists at an outlay of Rs. 1 crores in the current year, Mr. Sharma added.
