Bus overturns, one killed

MYSORE: One person died on the spot and 40 were injured when a Mysore-bound Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus fell into a ditch at D. Salundi, near here, on Friday morning. The condition of two of those injured, Anand and Gangadhar, is said to be critical.

According to the police, the incident occurred when the KSRTC bus was on its way to Mysore from H.D. Kote. The victim has been identified as Sannaneelaiah (50) of Chakkahalli village in H.D. Kote taluk. Anand and Gangadhar have been admitted to K.R. Hospital.

Sources said the bus driver lost control of the vehicle at a sharp curve near D. Salundi gate while trying to avoid collision with an on coming two-wheeler. It is learnt that the driver-cum-conductor was trying to issue tickets to the passenger when the incident occurred. The impact was such that the bus plunged into a ditch and rolled over thrice. The wheels and axle of the bus were completely damaged in the accident. The nearby villagers rushed to the spot and assisted in rescue operations. First aid was administered to the injured before they were taken to K.R. Hospital. The Jayapura police have registered a case.
