Teacher suspended for evaluation error

Bangalore: The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) has found discrepancies in the evaluation of papers in the recent SSLC supplementary examination. The board said that H. Shivanna. Assistant Master, Government Pre-University College (Girls), Arkeshwaranagar, Mandya, and K.C. Chandrashekar and Sanne Gowda, Assistant Masters of Abhinava Bharathi Vidya Kendra High School, Mandya gave zero marks to 13 students while transferring the marks from the answer scripts to the marks sheets. Mr. Shivanna had been suspended. The board has asked the management of Vidya Kendra High School to take disciplinary action against the other two teachers. — Staff Reporter

H.P. Khincha is Maxsoft Director

Bangalore: MAXrad SOFTware (India) Pvt. Ltd. (Maxsoft) has inducted H.P. Khincha as a Director on the company's board, a company statement said here. Prof. Khincha is the Chairman of the Electrical Science Division of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

10 kg of ganja seized, woman held

Bidar: Excise officials seized 10 kg of ganja worth Rs. 10,000 from a woman who had cultivated the crop at Navalaspur in Basavakalyan. The accused has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

10-day workshop for anganwadi workers

Bangalore: Pranic Healing Foundation of Karnataka is conducting a 10-day State-level comprehensive workshop from Monday for anganwadi workers on pranic healing, pranic psychotherapy, anatomy and physiology and mental health. The workshop will be held at Gajanana Seva Mandali, HMT Layout, near BMTC bus depot, R.T. Nagar Bangalore. Cultural programme series in Tumkur

TUMKUR: Kalpatharu Samskritika Vedike of Tumkur is heading towards its 100th cultural programme under the daily series, "Mane manegalalli samskritika saurabha."

Talking to presspersons at the end of its 70th programme here on Saturday, C.H. Maridevaru, president of the vedike, said the 100th programme will be held at "Shivakripa" on Sampige Road in Gokula Extension on August 8.

Woman kills daughter, self

CHITRADURGA: A woman allegedly killed her two-year-old child by poisoning and committed suicide by hanging herself at Kalgere village in Bharamasagara police station limits on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Lolakshamma (27), wife of Basavarajappa, and her daughter Shrusti. It is said that Lolakshamma had been suffering from stomachache for a long time and committed suicide in desperation. A case has been registered. — Staff Correspondent

Two arrested

Chitradurga: The Hosadurga police apprehended two persons and recovered gold and silver articles worth of Rs. 80,000 from them on Thursday.

The accused, Lokesh and Gangigere Umesh, residents of the same taluk, were found moving about suspiciously near Hiriyur Circle at Hosadurga in the early hours of Thursday. Upon interrogation, it was found that several cases of theft and robbery were registered against them. The arrested have been remanded in judicial custody. — Staff Correspondent

Two killed

DAVANGERE: Two persons died in an accident when two trucks collided near Donnehalli near Jagalur on National Highway 13 on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Pubar Singh (40) and Ibran (38). The police said that the deceased were the drivers of the trucks.

Matka racket: 11 arrested

HUBLI: The Hubli Police have arrested 11 persons, including a suspected bookie, in connection with running a matka racket and confiscated Rs. 45,000, landline phones and two mobile handsets from them.

The names of the arrested have been given as Venkanna Amabaji Kalal, Jagadish Venkanna Kalal, Gautam Arjun Kalal, Mohan Ningappa Hallikeri, Girish Mudkappa Hosatti (all from Dharwad); Vasant Keshav Devarmani (Belgaum), Nagappa, Sangappa Irappa Kumbar (both from Ramdurg). Another bookie Sanjiv Ambaji Kalal is absconding, police said. A case has been registered. — Staff Correspondent

Thief nabbed, handed over to police

HUBLI: A youth, who tried to snatch a moneybag from a person, was nabbed by the public and handed over to the police here on Saturday afternoon. Police said Vasanth Raghuram Shetty, a resident of Chandranath Nagar, who runs a paan shop opposite Old Bus Stand here, had drawn Rs. 25,000 from his bank account and was about to leave the bank when a youth snatched his money bag. Woman murdered

HASSAN: Rukmini (40) of Kabbinahalli village in Hassan taluk was allegedly murdered by her husband Manje Gowda on Friday, according to Hassan (Rural) police. According to the police, a quarrel broke out between Manje Gowda and Rukmini on Thursday. Their son tried to pacify the two before going out to work on Friday. When he returned, he found Rukmini lying in a pool of blood. A case has been registered. — Staff Correspondent
