Boat owners to stop fishing

KARWAR, JULY 24. Purse-seine boat owners, who have been going out for deep-sea fishing here defying the ban order, agreed to stop it from Saturday at a meeting convened by the in-charge Deputy Commissioner, A.S. Nirvanappa, today.

Fishermen leaders who attended the meeting appealed to the district administration to make alternative arrangements for their livelihood during the ban period from June 10 to August 15 every year.

This would help them, they said.

Meanwhile, a fisherman has filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking a stay against fishing by mechanised boats during the ban period.
