Centre urged to implement Mahajan panel report in fullIssue of classical language tag to Kannada to be raised

BANGALORE: BJP national general secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar, MP, on Saturday said party MPs from the State would move a resolution in the current session of the Lok Sabha demanding that the Centre implement the Mahajan Commission report in full.

Mr. Kumar told presspersons here that Maharashtra was unnecessarily raking up the issue of merging Belgaum and other parts of Karnataka with it.

The Centre should make its stand clear on the border issue and support the just demands of Karnataka, he said.

The BJP MPs from the State will also take up in the Parliament the issue of according classical language status to Kannada.

Bypoll

Referring to the December 4 Assembly byelection from Chamundeshwari constituency, the senior BJP leader said his party was not against any individual in the polls but was only fighting the Congress.

Mr. Kumar alleged that the Congress was not functioning as a constructive Opposition party in the State and was creating unnecessary hurdles in the smooth functioning of the Legislative Assembly and Council.

"This was evident from the Congress's behaviour at the historic legislature session held in Belgaum recently," he said.

Race for post

Mr. Kumar was guarded in his reply to a query whether he was in the race for the post of State BJP president.

Mr. Kumar said that he was assigned certain responsibilities at the national level, and the BJP's central leadership would take a decision on the appointment of the State president.
