Bidar to be developed into tourist centre

BIDAR, NOV. 29. Bandeppa Kashempur, MLA, said on Monday that Bidar would be developed into a tourist centre with the Union Government's assistance.

Addressing presspersons after inaugurating the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation's Mayura Baridshahi Hotel here, Mr. Kashempur said the Centre had, in principle, agreed to provide assistance.

The district administration had prepared a Rs. 11-crore proposal to preserve monuments and develop infrastructure. Of the amount, Rs. 5 crores would be set aside to develop the Narsimha Zarni Cave Temple with private participation. The State Government had forwarded a proposal to the Centre urging it to provide Rs. 3 crores. The State would provide a matching grant.

Mr. Kashempur said the Government had released Rs. 60 crores to develop inter-State highways and other roads in the district. This would facilitate tourists to visit the district. The establishment of Basavakalyan Development Authority would help develop the city associated with the 12th century saint Basaveshwara into an important tourist centre.

The Mayura Baridshahi Hotel, which remained closed in the past two years, had been rejuvenated with private participation. It had been leased out to Amarnath Shetty, hotelier from Mangalore, Mr. Kashempur said.

The Deputy Commissioner, T.K. Anil Kumar, and Mr. Shetty were present.
