Allergic rhinitis on the rise

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Doctors say cases of allergic rhinitis are rising with the increase in urbanisation and pollution.

"I get at least 15 patients every day who complain about runny noses and itchy eyes," said ENT specialist, P. Balakumar.

Recent surveys indicate that at least three per cent of the population has asthma, 25 per cent has allergic symptoms such as runny nose and puffy eyes, and four per cent of children have food allergies.

World Allergy Day was observed on Friday.
