Belgaum: Activists of the Belgaum District Kannada Organisations Action Committee hoisted "Kannada flag" in front of the office of Development Commissioner for Northern Karnataka here on Monday.

The police rushed to the spot and prevented any untoward incident.

The committee leaders, including former Mayor Siddangouda Patil, Umadevi Topannavar and Committee President Ashok Chandargi, met Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh and wanted to know what action the police have taken against those responsible for damaging public and private property during the "Belgaum bandh" observed on Saturday.

They wanted to know why no action was taken against Deputy Mayor Prakash Shirolkar although the police had seized his car in which stones and bricks were transported.

Additional Superintendent of Police C. Mohan said so far nine cases have been registered against the miscreants.

When the activists asked why no action was taken against leaders who provoked violence, Mr. Mohan said the police will take action soon.

Mr. Chandargi said the police should nip in the bud such problems.
