District administration urged to book cases under Cr.PC`Fake caste certificates are being sold at the tahsildar's offices'

DHARWAD: Karnataka Rajya Khotti Jati Pramanapatra Virodhi Horata Samiti (Karnataka State Committee for Agitation Against Fake Caste Certificates) has sought stringent action against people issuing fake caste certificates and those who get jobs with the certificates.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad recently, the samiti has urged the district administration to initiate measures to book cases against such persons under Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC).

They have referred to the recent letter of Under Secretary of Revenue Department dated November 22, 2006 directing the deputy commissioners and divisional commissioners to take action under Cr.PC against persons issuing and using fake caste certificates for getting jobs.

Y.A. Doddamani and Krishna Jakkappanavar, president and vice-president of the samiti, in the memorandum have alleged that menace of fake caste certificates was rampant in Kalghatgi taluk and so far no action had been taken against those involved in the racket.

They have alleged that fake caste certificates were being sold at the tahsildar's offices in the district and middlemen were involved in issuing the fake caste certificates.

Because of political pressure fake caste certificates were being issued and the cases where the issue of fake certificates have come to light are being covered up. The earlier tahsildar had cancelled several fake caste certificates. However the present tahsildar is issuing fake caste certificates, they have alleged in the memorandum.

They have urged the Deputy Commissioner to immediately take action against those involved in the racket.
