Y.N. Mahesh to join BJP today

DAVANGERE: Y.N. Mahesh, son of former Minister Y. Nagappa and a prominent Kuruba community leader, has decided to quit the Congress and join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Mahesh said that in the Congress workers were not getting “recognised” even after many years of service. The BJP was becoming popular day by day and the party was “nearer to people” unlike the Congress, he said and added that was way he had decided to join the party.

Mr. Mahesh had submitted his nomination papers for the Davangere Lok Sabha constituency as an independent candidate. However, he withdrew from the contest a few days ago.

To a question, he said that his father was made a Ministry after 40 years of “unquestionable” loyalty and service to the party.

He said that he had no patience to wait for 40 years to get recognition.

Before the press conference Mr. Mahesh was pressured by many of his community people, followers and Congress workers to remain in the Congress.

BJP leaders including H.S. Nagaraj and Yashwantha Rao came to his rescue and made him to address the press conference.

Mr. Mahesh will join the BJP in the presence of Ministers G. Janardhana Reddy, G. Karunakar Reddy and B. Sriramulu in Harihar on Friday.

The three Ministers are expected to visit various places in Davangere district on Friday as party of campaigning for the elections.
