Workshop on IPR

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: Underlining the importance of creating greater public awareness on intellectual property rights (IPR), experts opined that innovations and technologies developed by the country’s entrepreneurs need to be protected.

This is significant in the backdrop of the current economic downturn where industries and companies are shutting shop and with it the capacities and the innovative ideas of young entrepreneurs and other creative minds. Delivering the inaugural address at a workshop on creating greater public awareness about IPR, V. Prakash, Director, Central Food Technological Research Institute said here on Saturday that securing IPR when one develops a technology or a process was of immense significance in today’s competitive world.

The objective of patenting the new innovations was to ensure its legal protection and not merely from the commercial point of view, he added.
