Special Correspondent

CHICKBALLAPUR: Minister for Horticulture Umesh V. Katti on Thursday said that the work on the proposed International Agri Trade Park at Kannamangala in Devanahalli taluk of Bangalore Rural district, off the Bengaluru International Airport, would commence in six months.

After inspecting the land for the proposed project, Mr. Katti told presspersons that the agri park would be ready in 18 months to two years subsequent to the commencement of the work.

The project report for the Rs. 87-crore project is ready and the State Government has released Rs. 7 crore for the purpose.

An estimated 100 acres of land was required for the project.

As the Horticulture Department has only 86 acres of land at Kannamangala, there was a need to acquire 14 acres of land, Mr. Katti said.

Once the agri trade park, which would come up near the international airport, starts operation, farmers from Bangalore Rural, Chickballapur, Kolar, Mysore and neighbouring districts would be able to market their agricultural and horticultural produce in the international market and get remunerative prices, he said.

Horticulture Secretary Kanhiram, Director of Horticulture Vasanth Kumar and Assistant Director of Horticulture (Bangalore Rural district) Nagaraj accompanied the Minister.
