Two-day women writers' conference begins in Shimoga

SAGAR TOWN (SHIMOGA DISTRICT): The two-day State-level women writers' conference opened here on Saturday evening amid scenes of great enthusiasm.

Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa, who inaugurated the conference, called for creating simple literature to reach the ordinary readers.

He said the general impression was that literature was moving away from common people. "It is only women writers who can erase this impression ," he added.

Stating that there could be no gender discrimination in literature, Mr. Eshwarappa said the spiritual literature produced by poet-saint Akkamahadevi was comparable with works of men writers. He recalled the contribution of Kannada writer Triveni.
