Hassan: Theatre personality Jayashee was felicitated at Kala Bhavan in Hassan on Sunday by a non-governmental organisation called Tavarina Thottilu.

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Jayashree, said that it was a matter of regret that women empowerment had not become a reality. Reservation for women was there only on paper and not in reality.

Ms. Jayashree said that while goddesses were being worshipped and women were compared to gods, in reality women did not get a fair deal at all. They were being abused at home and at work places also. Although there were talks about women empowerment, it will become a reality only when Women’s Reservation Bill was passed. Only when more and more women occupy important positions in the administration can there be a change in the position of women in society, Ms. Jayashree added.

Till the bill was passed, women empowerment would remain only on paper and would never become a reality, Ms. Jayashree said.
