Woman killed in explosion

BANGALORE: A ninety-three-year-old woman died and her two children were injured in an explosion at their house near Mahalakshmi Layout early on Saturday.

The police said the victim Venkatasubbamma died on the way to hospital around 3.30 a.m. Her children Gowramma (66) and Satyanarayana Rao (55), who suffered burns, have been admitted to Victoria Hospital.

“The victim had forgotten to turn off the regulator of the gas cylinder on Friday night. Gowramma who had fever requested for hot water. When Venkatasubbamma lit the gas stove, there was an explosion,” the police said.


A dejected lover on Saturday cut his right thumb to pressurise an acquaintance to marry him and later tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat. He has been arrested by the police for attempting to commit suicide.

Abhijit Singh (26), a native of Lucknow, attempted suicide in Koramangala first block early on Saturday, the police said.

Abhijit, a Maintenance Manager in a private company in Uttar Pradesh, was undergoing training at the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore since November first week. He met an Instructional Designer at Accenture two weeks ago. The police said that he allegedly took an intense liking towards her.
