Farmers in the two districts advised not to irrigate crops

MYSORE: The combined effect of low pressure over the Bay of Bengal and the north-east monsoon resulted in wet weather in the district and surrounding areas on Sunday.

The prevailing weather coupled with onset of winter has forced the people to pull out their warm clothing.

There has been intermittent rainfall in the region, and overcast conditions with poor visibility continue to prevail in the entire region.

An Integrated Agromet Advisory Services release issued by the Organic Farming Research Station at Naganahalli said the maximum temperature plummeted to 28.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 16 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature forecast for Monday is 28 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while the minimum temperature will hover around 20 degree Celsius.

Forecast

The weather forecast suggests moderate to heavy rainfall in the district with no significant change in maximum and minimum temperature during the next couple of days. However, heavy cloud cover coupled with high humidity can be expected. The weather forecast for Mandya is not significantly different though the maximum temperature in the district will be higher at 31 degrees Celsius.

The release has also advised farmers in Mysore and Mandya districts not to irrigate agricultural and horticultural crops in view of the prevailing wet conditions. A similar forecast has been made for Chamarajanagar district and farmers have been advised against any irrigation in view of the anticipated rainfall. However, farmers have been cautioned that the groundnut crop could suffer from mealy bug infestation and advised them to take up pest management with adequate soil moisture at the time of spraying.
