We may cooperate with Congress: Kumaraswamy

BANGALORE: The former Chief Minister and Janata Dal (S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy saw little scope for his party to play a role in the formation of the Government at the Centre with three MPs.

He told presspersons here on Saturday that he did not foresee a situation in which the Congress-led coalition would be requiring the support of smaller parties like the Janata Dal (S). However, he said his party would consider co-operating with the Congress whenever such a situation arose.

Mr. Kumaraswamy, who reiterated that the Janata Dal (S) would remain in the Third Front, said the future course of action of his party would be determined by the collective decision to be taken by the Third Front.

“We will be part of the Third Front. The Janata Dal (S) will abide by whatever decision the Third Front takes. There is no question of breaking ranks with the Third Front,” he said.

Mr. Kumaraswamy, who caused ripples by meeting Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi recently, said the Janata Dal (S) would sit in the Opposition in the Lok Sabha along with its Third Front partners.

He said the Third Front leaders, who were slated to meet in New Delhi on Monday, would chalk out a role for the Third Front at the Centre.
