Congress accused of being soft on terrorism

Centre criticised for failure to check inflation

Udupi: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could provide a stable Government and give impetus to the State’s development.

He was speaking at an election rally at Malpe beach, here. Mr. Modi said the Centre had adopted a soft line on problems such as terrorism and naxalite activities. Owing to this policy, Karnataka had become a hotbed of terrorist activities, he claimed. “The Centre’s lackadaisical policy in controlling naxalism has only resulted in the death of more police personnel and their children. But, there is no terrorist or naxalite activity in Gujarat,” he said.Gujarat had made rapid strides in all fields. The growth rate of Gujarat was 11.2 per cent compared to the national growth rate of around seven per cent. This was because the BJP had provided stable Government, which had given an impetus to development.“The Congress leaders in Karnataka say that they do not want another Gujarat here. Can any Congressman make Karnataka achieve what Gujarat has achieved in terms of development?”

Criticising the Centre for its failure to control inflation, he said when the NDA was in power, the godowns were overflowing with foodgrains, but now the country was importing wheat at Rs. 1,500 a quintal. Besides, the Government was paying only Rs. 700 a qunital of wheat to farmers of the country, he said.
