Private bus rams into parked KSRTC bus

MYSORE: Two persons were killed and nine were injured when a private Volvo bus headed towards Bangalore hit a KSRTC bus parked by the side of the road near Mandya on the Mysore-Bangalore highway on Monday morning.

The Bangalore-bound KSRTC bus had stopped to allow passengers to have refreshments at a hotel.

The accident took place opposite San Jo Hospital, about 5 km from Mandya.


The police said Antony Navin, a 26-year-old employee of a private factory in Bangalore, who was seated in a rear seat of the KSRTC bus, and the 35-year-old cleaner of the private bus Devaraj, who was seated in the front cabin, were killed owing to the impact of the collision.

Nine other passengers in both buses suffered injuries. They were rushed to various hospitals in Bangalore and Mysore for treatment, the police said.

According to the police Navin, a native of Ratnapuri village in Hunsur taluk of Mysore district, had visited Mandya on Sunday evening to meet his fiancée.

He was engaged to Mary, a resident of Nehrunagar in Mandya, just a month ago. He boarded the KSRTC bus on Monday morning. After being hit by the private bus, the KSRTC bus was pushed off the highway into a ditch nearby. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mandya district, Lawrence visited the spot.

A case has been booked by the Mandya Rural Police and investigation is under way.
