Tulunadu sports meet held

Udupi: The Udyavara zonal-level sports meet, focusing on the traditional games of Tulunadu, got off to a colourful start at the UFC Grounds here on Sunday with the traditional “Padadana” folk song presented by Sadhu Panara and Kargi Panara.

Traditional sports such as lagori, kutti donne, bachcha, jubilee, kallatta, tonka, chennamane, and cricket with a bat made of coconut branch (“kottalige bat”) were played in front of a large gathering. A zonal-level sports meet was also held at the MGM Grounds in Udupi. These sports meets had been organised as part of the World Tulu Conference.

The sports meet at Udyavara was inaugurated by Janardhan, managing trustee of Mahakali temple, N.B. Vijay Ballal, Maulana Abdul Rashid Rehmani of Udyavara Jamia Masjid, and Priest of Udyavara Chruch William Martis.

President of the organising committee Alevoor Harish Kini welcomed the gathering.
