Three killed in road accident

DHARWAD: Three persons were killed in an accident involving a bullock cart and a State transport bus on the National Highway No. 63 near Annigeri in Dharwad district on Sunday.According to the police, Basavanneppa Unakal (55) was killed on the spot, Pitambarappa Unakal (55) succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital and Shanthavva Betageri (60) died after being given first aid at the KIMS Hospital in Hubli.

The dead were residents of Bangarappa Extension in Annigeri. The accident occurred at 5.40 a.m. when they were going to their farmland for harvesting. The injured Vinayak Unakal, Anand Betageri, Mallavva P. Unakal, Ishwar P. Unakal and Gurunath A. Betageri are being treated at the hospital.

According to the police, driver of the bus, which was on its way to Udupi from Gadag, lost control on the vehicle while negotiating a curve and hit the bullock cart. Two oxen also suffered serious injuries in the accident.

The bus driver Mahadev Matagar was arrested by the Annigeri police.
