MYSORE: Hundreds of telephone lines of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in parts of Bannimantap and Hanumanthanagar here were dead after workers of Mysore City Corporation (MCC), who were engaged in a bridge work at Hanumanthanagar, reportedly damaged the underground telephone cables on Friday, disrupting the telecommunication network in the localities.

An earthmover which was removing debris from the site where the bridge is being reconstructed by the MCC damaged the cables during the work. The employees of BSNL restored the network on Saturday evening.

According to the residents of the areas, the telephone lines were restored around 5:45 p.m.

They said the corporation should deploy an engineer to oversee works to ensure that water pipes, telephone cables and electric cables were not damaged during the work, because of negligence. “If anything happens, the public will be put to hardship for no fault of theirs,” they said.
