No approval yet for zonal classification

BBMP needs to reduce UAV by 20 per cent

Application forms, booklets need to be printed

Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will not be able to collect property tax from February 1 as announced by Transport Minister R. Ashok.

According to sources in the Urban Development Department and the BBMP, the Government is yet to give its nod for the final notification on zonal classification.

The BBMP is required to reduce the Unit Area Value (UAV) by 20 per cent as promised by the Government during the Legislature session held in Belgaum and needs to prepare application forms and booklet once the Government agreed with the changes made in the draft notification after considering objections filed by the public.

In all probability, the BBMP would issue final notification on zonal classification and UAV in a day or two and it would then require at least a week to print application forms, booklets containing information and sample calculation of property tax, and ARO office-wise UAV and zonal classification notification.

The sources said as per the ongoing GIS survey, the number of properties in BBMP had increased to approximately 18 lakh and that much application forms, booklets and sufficient number of notification on zonal classification required to be printed before commencing tax collection. The officials said the BBMP was likely to start a campaign on educating the people on the tax system from February 1.
