Tamil activists seek bail

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Three of the several Tamil activists facing charges of secession have moved the Karnataka High Court for bail.

The activists, Bodanda Ravi, Srinivasan and D. Kumar, all of Bangalore, are among the 12 charged with criminal conspiracy by the Fraser Town police in 2003 and are labelled as sympathisers of Tamil extremist movement.

The prosecution, which opposed the bail application, claimed that the accused were part of a group that had drawn up a plan to wage war against the State. Vijay Murthy (now dead) was the first accused in the case. The conspiracy came to light after Vijay Murthy alias Viji and Shiva Kumar alias Shiva were arrested near the Banaswadi railway station on November 11, 2002. Pipe bombs were seized from them.
