‘BJP Government has failed to protect people’s interests’

CHAMARAJANAGAR: General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee Ghulam Nabi Azad has urged people to support the Congress and bring the United Progressive Alliance back to power at the Centre.

He was speaking at a campaign meeting in support of party candidate for Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha seat R. Druvanarayan here on Thursday.

He said the credit for the country getting Independence should go to the Congress. Chamarajanagar was the only Lok Sabha constituency in the country where all the Assembly segments in it were represented by the Congress. It was the responsibility of the people of the constituency to support the Congress candidate, he added.

He stressed the need for uniting secular forces to bring the UPA back to power at the Centre. He sought to know how BJP could declare L.K. Advani as its prime ministerial candidate when it had asked him to step down after his visit to Pakistan.

Earlier, Mr. Azad visited Hanur in Kollegal taluk. He said it was the Congress which formulated many welfare programmes and implement them to protect the interests of the poor. He expressed confidence that the UPA would return to power at the Centre.

Working president of the KPCC D.K. Shiva Kumar criticised the BJP Government.

He alleged that the BJP Government had failed to protect the interests of the people. He also alleged that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa did not fulfil the promises made to the people.
