Street play highlights child abuse

Special Correspondent

MANGALORE: An attempt was made on Wednesday to create awareness about child abuse through a street play in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here.

Organised as part of the Child Rights Week celebrations by the city-based Prajna Counselling Centre, the play had a touch of the local flavour as Tulu language was used along with Kannada and Hindi by the characters in it.

Story

A child, who is happy spending his life along with his friends, is suddenly pushed into a life of hard work by his father, who puts the boy under a landlord as a servant with selfish motives. As a result, the child is deprived of both his childhood and education.

Director of the centre, Hilda Rayappann, spoke about the importance of protecting children’s rights.

The centre has staged street plays at Pachanady, Ashoknagar, kagoor and Kasba Bengre and distributed pamphlets.

Rally

A rally was held from Mudushdde Government School to gram panchayat of the village. Gram panchayat president Kavitha Dinesh spoke.
