State looking at alternative land for slum-dwellers

The State Government on Wednesday informed the Karnataka High Court that discussions are on among the authorities to cancel the allotment to the Karnataka State Slum Clearance Board of more than 2 acres of land belonging to the General Hospital and Mandya Medical College in Mandya.

Principal Government Advocate Basavaraj Kareddy made this submission when a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice Manjula Chellur was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) petition challenging the decision of the State Government to allot to the Slum Board more than two acres of college land for construction of houses for slum-dwellers.

The court was told that there is an earlier order of stay against the allotment of land to the Slum Board. The Bench continued the stay and adjourned further hearing.
