Sportspersons honoured

Belgaum: The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Services, Amarkumar Pande, said that sports and cultural activities were essential for the all-round personality development of the students.

He was delivering the inaugural address at a function organised at the Jnana Sangama campus of Visvesvaraya Technological University here on Wednesday. The function was organised to felicitate the prize winners of the Inter-University Sports competitions for 2007-08. the State Government had prepared an action plan to promote sports.

VTU Vice-Chancellor H. P. Khincha presided.

Krishna N. A. of B.M.S. College of Engineering. Bangalore, was awarded the ‘Best Outgoing Sportsperson’ of 2007-08 and Kavya Muttanna C. M. of Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Bangalore, was presented a cash prize of Rs. 70,000 for her preparations for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games 2010 at New Delhi.
