Udupi: The Udupi District Minorities Forum, Udupi Zilla Muslim Okkoota, Udupi Zilla Vicharavadi Vedike, Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike, Karnataka Forum for Dignity, Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti and other socialist groups staged a dharna here on Saturday.

It was organised to protest against the alleged threat to a press reporter, Sriram Divana, by the former BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat during a procession taken out by the RSS and its sister organisations in protest against the Kannur incident on March 31.

Speaking on the occasion, G. Rajashekhar, writer, said that the religious intolerance unleashed by the sangh parivar was spreading throughout the State.

Assault condemned

The protesters condemned against the recent assault on the chairman of Backward Classes Commission Dwarkanath in Madikeri, and the half-nude parade of Dalits and Muslims allegedly by the sangh parivar members at Balehonnur in Chikmagalur district. The Bharatiya Janata Party was using the Hogenakkal issue for political mileage,” Mr. Rajashekar said.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Governor Rameshwar Thakur at the taluk office.
