Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: The Belgaum district unit of Kolgeri Nivasigala Hitarakshana Sangh on Wednesday organised a rally of families living in slums across the district to protest against the continued negligence by the local administrations towards basic infrastructure in their localities.

The families gathered at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Garden to discuss the problems facing individual slums before marching to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The sangh’s district president, Shankar R. Doddamani, the vice-president, Yallappa H. Hudli, and the general secretary, Yallesh L. Bacchalpuri, led the protest.

Later, submitting a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Doddamani said that there were 132 slums spread across the district, 30 of them in Belgaum city, without proper facilities. Most of them do not get electricity supply in the night. Even the condition of the streets and bylanes is bad.
