‘Dalit movement is losing relevance’

KOLAR: Processions, seminars and cultural programmes marked the 52nd Parinirvan Diwas of B.R. Ambedkar all over the district on Saturday.

The district unit of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) observed the death anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar as “Unity Day of Exploited and Untouchable Communities”. Speakers at the functioned stressed the need for introspection among the leaders of Dalit movement.

Speaking after inaugurating the function at Nachiket Nilaya, DSS organising secretary N. Venkatesh said that the movement was losing relevance because of some selfish Dalit leaders.

The socially oppressed people were being isolated from society in a planned manner after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the State, Mr Venkatesh alleged.

Singer Pichchalli Srinivas, poets Gollahalli Shivaprasad and Subbu Holeyar spoke.

Venkatapu Satyam presided over the function.
