58,000 teachers will be employed to visit 1.12 crore houses
CHIKMAGALUR: Dwarakanath, chairman of the State Backward Classes Commission said here on Friday that a scientific survey of people belonging to BCs in the State would be conducted in April and a report submitted to the Government in May next year.
Speaking to presspersons, Dr. Dwarakanath said one lakh people, including 58,000 teachers would be employed to visit 1.12 crore houses in the State. He said that the State Government and the centre had granted funds for this task.
Stating that Karnataka is the first State to undertake such a survey in the country, he said there were 1,300 Backward Classes.
He said he had undertaken a tour of the State to interact with the district administration and find out whether Government benefits were reaching the BCs and whether students’ hostels were being run efficiently. He said he would visit the naxal affected areas of the district on Saturday and submit a report to the Government on the condition of people living there. He would also inform the chairman of the SC\ST commission on the plight of people belong to the SCs and STs.
Grenade found
A hand grenade was found partially buried in the ground near the scene of a encounter in which five persons were killed near Menisinahadya in Koppa taluk on July 10.
A resident of the village who discovered the grenade informed the police who were escorting Mr. Dwarakanath, chairman of the State Backward Classes Commission during his visit to the naxal affected areas of the district on Saturday.
Senior police officials accompanied by the bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and recovered the grenade.
