Scheme to provide rice at Rs. 17 a kg begins today

CHAMARAJANAGAR: District in-charge and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Hartal Halappa has said a new scheme under which rice will be distributed at Rs. 17 a kg through State cooperatives will commence on Tuesday.

Mr. Halappa was speaking after inaugurating the primary health centre (PHC), built at a cost of Rs. 34 lakh, at Bommalapura in Gundlupet taluk on Monday. He said that the scheme was applicable to everybody. He said that steps had been taken to fill vacant posts of doctors. He said that many schemes were being implemented by the Government to improve the life of rural people. Mr. Halappa also laid the foundation stone of a boys’ hostel estimated to cost Rs.54 lakh. Presiding over the function, the former Minister and Gundlupet MLA H.S. Mahadev Prasad said that Gundlupet taluk needed more development. He said the PHCs at Harave and Terakanambi would be upgraded to community health centres shortly.
